I bought a small lot of white beech (wit boekenhout ) at the indigenous timber auctions . Anyone know of it ? Apparently it is very dense.

I've never heard of it, but would love a piece for my wood sample collection ! I now have 98 different species on the workshop wall, with a few more to be added soon.
Did you get any info on the chisel rehardening story?

Rapanea melanophloeos, very nice to work with, very hard, pretty with darker yellow streaks with sometimes a light pink undertone, very good for work surfaces, table tops etc. needs to be dried well and properly ie, sticks and packed solidly....
