Hi all,
Among other slabs, I have most of a Eucalyptus tree that was felled more than a year ago. Div suggested I find out what specific Euc it is.
I'm at a bit of a loss on how to identify Eucalyptus - Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this?

Hi PG. I’m no expert but if it is a pinkish colour(sort of like Meranti) and relatively soft, it is Saligna. If it is more red/orange, hard and heavy, it is Karri. Hope this helps!

Howzit PG! Welcome to Talkingsawdust! Galoot has pretty much said what I know. Those are the only ones I’ve worked with so far. You also get White Gum (Oreades) which is a whitish/yellow color. There are apparently many other “non-commercial” species. I’ve heard of River gum, Salmon Gum and Populus.
What color is your timber? Maybe you can post a close up picture of the wood. I know a guy in George who is an expert on the different gums. He always wants to know about the bark, the leaves, the seeds. A photo of the grain will help a lot.
