Never give up hope. I received a commission this week from an art gallery in Stellenbosch for one of my art furniture pieces! Well, kind of a commission. Its not like they are going to buy it, galleries mostly work with consigned stock. They saw a photo of this specific piece, liked it very much, and wants to exhibit it. I’ve sold the piece so now I am busy making a similar one for them. I’ll post a photo when it is done.
But that is not all. Flambé Fine Art Gallery wants a total of 6 of my works for exhibit: 2 pieces of furniture, 3 sculptures, and one piece of functional art. So I am quite chuffed. It is a foot in the door, Cape Town here I come!
This bit of news reinforces my belief that there is room for custom art furniture pieces in this country. Nothing like in the States, but still. Quality of craftsmanship is not enough though. Design plays a very important factor and because we do not have a very strong “wood culture”, the design has to be modern, contemporary, even quirky. The book that Chips so kindly lent me talks of “new wave” woodworking and that is exactly it, a fresh approach.
Let’s see where this new road will lead me!
A road forward
My words to you: Trust the process, you have done the hours my friend. It will be taken care of.
Now put your head down and go for it. My thoughts are with you.
The Road
And so I will. You do not know how much you help to ease the bumps in the road.. Thank you brother!
