It's Drool time again

Howzit Div,

Here we go again with the latest instalment of wood porn from Downunder.

http://www.auctions.com.au/auctions/2011/08/13/wa-logs-timber-packs-burl...

I managed to snag two small lots that I could fit in the boot of my car (Lot 81 &106), mainly Sheoak and some larger blocks for turning .

The prices on some of the stuff was the lowest I've ever seen. None of the large Jarrah or Marri slabs went over the $300 mark.
A number of the whole logs in the yard did not even get a single bid.
Sign of the times?

I'll post a few pics of a small bowl that I've managed to turn out of the Sheoak later.

Greetings

Stephen

A new line of furniture....

In a never ending quest to minimise the labour content of my pieces, I have now come up a new line....

Wood Porn

Howzit Div,

Here is a link to the latest FPC wood auction held in May.

Hope you are ready and able to control your drool from not shorting out your keyboard.
Wish I had access to milling equipment, some of those logs just need cracking open to reveal their inner beauty.

ENJOY!

Finishing the finish

I once heard a wonderful little story about someone visiting a brass
foundry. After observing the sand moulds and the casting process, the
visitor walked over to an old man polishing a brass casting. The piece was
already very shiny and quite beautiful, yet the man was patiently buffing
and polishing. “It looks beautiful, when will it be finished?” the visitor
asked. “Oh, it never gets finished.” the man replied. “They just come and
take it away.”
Many times, that is exactly how it goes when I am finishing a piece. I feel that I never get it finished. Eventually, the deadline just comes and
takes it away….

Food for thought - shop signs

I saw the following sign on the wall in a woodworking shop :

"The easy way is hard enough."

The other one read:

"If you didn't have time to do it right in the first place, how come you have the time to do it over? "

And here is another one from my collection :

Either you is or you ain't;
Either you can or you cain't;

Either you will or you won't;
Either you do or you don't.

Sign for Chips's new workshop

I thought maybe the following sign could work quite well against the wall of Chips and curls's new workshop :

" Do not disturb. I am already disturbed! "

Keep up the good work, you are almost there brother!
